small structures projects.

Small Structures is an arc project for the Yorkshire region, in association with MAAP, Architecture Week Yorkshire 06.
Over the weekend of 16th 18th June 06 you can may have witnessed architects and artists respond to the Small Structures brief by designing and building their small structures, in situ in Hull, Leeds and Wakefield.
Design Statement:
We are intrigued by the notion of time and conversation and how one conversation has significant influence on others at a later time
How could the conversations in this shelter set up a dialogue beyond its confines?
We are attracted to the analogy of a flower (a host) when, on achieving maturity, dispels its seeds to begin the process again through germination and new growth
The dandelion clock works as a metaphor for our conversation - inviting participation through picking, blowing, counting and watching in wonder spreading its seeds.
Our site ..... adjacent to arc ....reinforces the notion of sowing interest in architecture across the region.
The image of the dandelion clock
led us to develop a concept of the shelter being the starting point of a conversation
the question, the seed for others, posed by a message scribbled on a label attached to the string of a helium filled balloon
the question, the seed for others, posed by a message scribbled on a label attached to the string of a helium filled balloon
the balloon would come to rest and the message, the seed lodged in the readers brain
at this stage the seed may prompt thought or new conversation with a companion or the email address on the label will encourage an electronic response
The balloons are part of the ephemeral nature of the shelter temporarily held until the message is ready to be released.
