SALT developed a programme for a long term masterplan of improvements and alterations to the school at Newland St. John. This project involves extensive refurbishment and extensions to the existing premises to deal with the increasing children numbers as well as looking to generally upgrade the facilities. The project created 3 new classrooms (2 using the existing structure), formation of a new library space, expanding the hall and creating new staff and community spaces.

The overall works have been phased to allow the school to continue operating efficiently and safely and these phases include landscape works, internal alterations and new extensions. The aim of developing a whole master plan is to allow small programs of work to be implemented over a series of years as funding becomes available to create a coherent and rich scheme.

The challenges with this project have been in keeping a busy school open whilst the works are progressing and this process has been managed well as a result of the successful project management procedures carried out by SALT Architects.
